SUNY New Paltz Women’s Volleyball Improves to 4-1 in SUNYAC
UTICA, NY — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team split their first two matches of the day at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pool Play.
In the 12:00 pm match SUNY New Paltz (11-4, 3-1) defeated Plattsburgh (5-11, 1-3) in four games, 3-1. The Hawks dropped the first game 28-30, and rallied to win the next three games 30-26, 30-26 and 30-3 respectively. Sophomore middle hitter Kim Braga (Long Beach, NY) recorded 12 kills and nine blocks. Senior middle hitter Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY) also totaled 12 kills with seven blocks. Senior libero Christina Butcher (North Salem, NY) had 24 digs and sophomore setter Katie Becofsky (Altamont, NY) made 39 assists.
The Hawks dropped their 2:00 pm match to Oneonta (11-7, 3-1) by a score of 3-2. SUNY New Paltz won the first match 30-18, lost the second 23-30, won the third 30-14, lost the fourth 26-30 and lost the fifth 13-15. Becofsky recorded 46 assists. Mazurowski had 12 kills and eight blocks. Senior outside hitter Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point, NY) had 13 kills and 24 digs. Junior Kimberly Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY) had 16 kills and 12 digs.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team defeated Potsdam in the 6:00 pm game, 3-0. The Hawks took the first game 30-16, the second 30-18 and the third 30-22. Becofsky finished with 35 assists. Senior libero Christina Butcher (North Salem, NY)recorded 15 digs. Kaiser and Mazurowski each registered 13 kills.
