SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Serves Up First SUNYAC Win

PLATTSBURG, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis team served up their first win of the season against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival SUNY Potsdam 9-0. The Hawks move to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the SUNYAC.

At number one singles, sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) defeated senior Lauren Olivari (Setauket, NY) 6-3 and 6-1. The winning streak continued for the Hawks as Dana Lim (New City, NY) beat Jessica Castaneda 6-0 and 6-0 in number two singles. SUNY New Paltz, who won six of six singles flights, also received straight set victories at number three, four, five, and six singles from freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY), senior Margarete Fenton (East Meadow, NY), sophomore Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis, NY), and freshman Amanda Fusco (Long Beach, NY).

The Hawks swept doubles play as well, behind an 8-1 victory from the number one team of Yamakawa and Lim. At number two doubles the duo of Fenton and Larson downed the Bears senior Lauren Malema (Niskayuna, NY) and senior Sarah Rosintoski (Black River, NY) 8-3, while freshman sisters Lindsay and Ashley Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) notched the win over junior Christina Collins (Syracuse, NY) and senior Ashley Hopkins (Catskill, NY) 8-3.

The Hawks continue conference play tomorrow Sunday September 4, as they set off against SUNY Plattsburg.
