POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team conquered Vassar College 1-0 this afternoon at Prentiss Field. With the victory, the Hawks improve their record to a flawless 2-0-1, while Vassar College drops to 1-2-1.

In the first half of play the field was leveled with a constant change in offensive attacks. At 25:50, SUNY New Paltz had a chance to score when, Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) missed on a breakaway shooting the ball wide. Not long after, Vassar’s Kate Bossange (Saratoga, CA) received a cross in front of the net and nearly capitalized. At the end of the first half, both teams would remain scoreless.

The game-winning goal would come in the second half when freshman midfielder Jennifer Anselmi (Garnerville, NY) feathered a pass to the left side of the box to junior forward Kerri Kelty. Kelty fired a shot over the head of Vassar College goalie Lisa Strumwasser(Santa Monica, CA).

The Hawks displayed a vast amount of tenacity and pride on the soccer field, showing their best performance thus far. In a game where the Brewers offense tallied a season high 18 shots on goal, freshman goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY) recorded 12 saves.
