SUNY New Paltz Cross Country Teams Competes at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The SUNY New Paltz menýs and womenýs cross-country teams opened up their 2005 season today at the Vassar College Invitational.

The Hawks were paced by senior George Correa (Central Islip, NY) who finished 20th with a time of 31:32.19. Freshman Sean Brown (Verplanek, NY) finished 22nd with a strong performance at 32:08.92. Also finishing in the top five finishers for the Hawks were: Freshman Ceilidh Clark (Wayland, NY) 32nd, 33:59.52, junior Mike Nelson (Dix Hills, NY) 33rd, 34:05.19, and freshman Mark Kelly-Safir (Poland, ME) 34th, 34:09.45.

SUNY New Paltz menýs cross-country team finished fourth overall with 109 points. Led by four runners in the top five finishers, Vassar College won the meet with 20 points. Vassarýs Patrick Murray finished first with a time of 27:10.44. NJIT was a close second with 30 points and Bard College was a distant third with 74 points.

Junior Kelly Dunphy (Hauppauge, NY) led the women’s team to a 3rd place finish. Dunphy finished with a time of 20:46.69 and a 14th place finish. Freshman Stephanie Albinski (Commack, NY) crossed the finish line in 20:48.75 and came in 17th. Junior Alida Almelo (Groton, NY) was 19th with a time of 20:52.64.

Rounding out the top five for the Hawks were senior Kate Choromanski (Shelton, CT) who was 21st with a time of 21:03.04 and senior Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY), who came in 25th with a time of 21:11.57. The Hawks finished the meet with 91 points. Vassar College finished first with 36 points. Amy Rouston of Lehman College, won the race with a time of 17:41.44.

On Thursday September 15, the Hawks will travel to Albany, New York for the University of Albany Cross Country Invitational.
