SUNY New Paltz Cross Country Teams Compete at Oneonta State

ONEONTA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed at the Oneonta State Airfield Invitational today. The men’s team took a tenth place finish while the women finished fifth.

The Hawks were paced by sophomore Ceilidh Clark (Wayland, NY) who finished 108th with a time of 23:53. Junior Mike Nelson (Dix Hills, NY) finished 109th with a strong performance at 23:56. Also finishing in the top five finishers for the Hawks were: Freshman Nick Faulhaber (Lancaster, NY) 111th, 24:05, senior George Correa (Central Islip, NY) 112th, 24:09, and freshman Mark Kelly-Safir (Poland, ME) 115th, 24:46.

SUNY New Paltz men’s cross-country team finished tenth overall with 306 points. Led by a team of strong runners, Cortland won the meet with 48 points. Colgate?s Mike Hanlon finished first with a time of 19:05. Colgate was a close second with 59 points and Ithaca College was a distant third with 72 points.

Junior Alida Almelo (Groton, NY) led the women’s team to a 5th place finish. Almelo finished with a time of 18:56 and a 28th place finish. Freshman Stephanie Albinski (Commack, NY) crossed the finish line in 19:14 and came in 36th. Senior Kate Choromanski (Shelton, CT) was 37th with a time of 19:15.

Rounding out the top five for the Hawks were senior Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY) who was 38th with a time of 19:17 and junior Winter Eyers (Selkirk, NY), who came in 44th with a time of 19:28. The Hawks finished the meet with 91 points. Ithaca College finished first with 34 points. Charity Learn of Mansfield College won the race with a time of 16:39.

On Saturday September 24, the Hawks will travel to St. Lawrence, New York for the St. Lawrence Invitational.
