DeKams Named SUNYAC Player of the Week
NEW PALTZ, NY — SUNY New Paltz sophomore third baseman/pitcher John DeKams (Kings Park, NY) was named the Player of the Week in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) this afternoon.
DeKams went 3-for-6 with four runs batted in a 1-1 week for the Hawks. In a 10-4 triumph over Vassar on March 30, DeKams was 2-for-3 and drove in four. He also pitched the final two innings and struck out four of the eight batters that he faced.
He also had one hit in three at bats in an 11-2 loss at Ithaca the next day.
DeKams leads the Hawks with a .452 batting average (14-for-31) and has drove in a team-best 10 runs.
On the mound he has struck out 10 batters in 10 innings of work and is 0-1 with a 5.40 earned run average.
