Cortland Scores Late to Take Two From Hawks

CORTLAND, NY — SUNY Cortland scored twice in the sixth inning of game two to break a 6-6 tie and came away with an 8-6 win in the second game of a doubleheader sweep over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon.

The Red Dragons (24-7, 12-0) moved in front for good against SUNY New Paltz freshman starter Kelly O?Hea (Huntington Station, NY) on an RBI double by Kim Wood. Wood would later score on an RBI single by Kim Huson to give Cortland an 8-6 advantage.

SUNY New Paltz (16-12, 6-8) brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the bottom of the sixth but Cortland?s Ang D?Amboise worked out of trouble by striking out junior Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) with runners at second and third to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, freshman Lauren Motzkin (Woodstock, NY) singled off Amboise with one out to bring the tying run to plate. Amboise then retired Schropfer and sophomore Amy O’Brien (LaGrangeville, NY) to end it.

Keyed by RBI singles from freshmen Joelle VonBischoffshausen (North Brunswick, NJ) and Amalia Ditrapani (Staten Island, NY), SUNY New Paltz scored four times in the second to take a 5-3 lead after two innings. Cortland scored three times in the fifth to take a 6-5 advantage but SUNY New Paltz quickly tied it in that same inning on an RBI double by senior Jessica Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY).

Schropfer was 2-for-3 with a run batted in. McPartlan was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in while O?Brien was 1-for-4.

In game one, Stephanie Adamshick held the Hawks just three hits in an 8-0 victory. Jen Rockwell and Erin Bock each had two runs batted in for the Red Dragons who racked up 12 hits in the game.
