St. Mary’s Completes Three-Game Sweep Of Hawks

ST. MARY’S CITY, MD — The St. Mary’s College baseball team completed a three-game series sweep against SUNY New Paltz with a 7-1 victory on Sunday afternoon. Senior centerfielder Matt Engelau and junior designated hitter Chris D’Antuono led the Seahawks with three hits apiece in the contest.

The Seahawks (3-0) built a 5-0 lead after three innings with two runs in the first, two in the second, and one in the third. SUNY New Paltz (0-3) scored their run in the top of the seventh inning, but the Seahawks answered with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the 7-1 final.

For the Hawks, sophomore designated hitter Justin Buonamano went 1-for-2, while junior center fielder Trevor Bailey was 1-for-3. Junior right fielder Jeff Cote collected the only other hit in the contest for SUNY New Paltz and was 1-for-4 on the day.

Sophomore right-hander Greg Campo started on the mound and took the loss. Campo (0-1) allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits. He walked two and struck out one batter. Junior lefty Joe Gugliotta threw the final three innings in relief. Gugliotta allowed two runs on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
