Hawks Sweep Metro Rival New Jersey City U.

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team needed 55 minutes to register a 3-0 sweep of New Jersey City University this evening.

The Hawks, who picked up their first conference win of the 2005 season, earned a 30-0 forfeit victory in the first game. SUNY New Paltz (2-4, 1-1) then hit .479 over the next two games to earn the victory. The Hawks had 29 kills and just six errors in the match.

Senior Chris Ganje (Halfmoon, NY) had five kills and eclipsed the 900 career-kill mark in the match. Junior Ryan Bullard (Smithtown, NY) added five kills and played errorless volleyball.

Senior Jason Karpf (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) ran the offensive efficiently and finished with 23 assists. The Hawks as a team-recorded 13 service aces.

New Jersey City University (3-4, 1-3) was led by sophomore Maurice Washington (Orlando, FL) who finished with three kills and 12 assists.
