SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Team Losses Second Straight
GENESEO, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team dropped their second conference road game this weekend to Geneseo, 66-58. The Hawks had won six in a row until losing to SUNY IT, 40-39, last night.
The Hawks fell behind 10-4 in the first five minutes of the game but managed to claw their way back behind sophomore guard Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY). Kelty led the Hawks with eight points and five rebounds at half, and helped SUNY New Paltz take a 24-23 lead into halftime.
SUNY New Paltz (9-6, 4-3) was able to hold on to the lead but only until Geneseo went on a five minute, 15-3 run, that left the Hawks down 49-38 with 6:39 left to play. The Geneseo (5-9, 3-3) guard combination of, senior, Laura Talbott (Penfield, NY) and, junior, Jackie Fertitta (Roslyn, NY) led the Knight’s second-half charge.
Despite a strong effort from Kelty and sophomore forward Sandra Glazewski (Dobbs Ferry, NY) the Hawks were unable to overcome the Knights. Kelty finished the night with 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Glazewski added 15 points and four steals in the loss.
Fertitta finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Geneseo.
