Men’s Swimming Team Takes Fourth at RPI Invite
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s swimming team finished fourth among a field of seven teams at the Kumpf Invitational hosted by RPI this afternoon.
The Hawks were led by senior Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY) who won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.73. Yeung also finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.53 and teamed up with sophomores Danny Lo (Toms River, NJ) and Chris Chaplin (Hempstead, NY) and senior Jay Sousa (Albany, NY) to finish second in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:45.94.
Freshman Nick Johnson (Highland Mills, NY) swam a strong race in the 200-yard breaststroke and finished fourth with a time of 2:20.91. Freshman John Fleckenstein (Port Jefferson, NY) was sixth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:14.76 .
The Hawks 400-yard freestyle relay team of senior Ben Yousey (Beaverfalls, NY), sophomore Craig Gottesman (Oceanside, NY), freshman Brendan Lown (Bohemia, NY) and freshman Mike Demerest (Long Beach, NY) took sixth place with a time of 3:33.80.
Ithaca College won the meet with 548 points. They were 45 points better than second place RPI. SUNY New Paltz finished with 288 points.
