Hawks Fall 73-60 at College of Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND, NY — Playing its first game in nearly a month, the SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team fell 73-60 to the College of Staten Island this evening.
Jacclyn Rock led three players in double figures with a game-high 28 points and the Dolphins (10-1) outscored the Hawks 18-7 in the first seven minutes of the second half to build a 47-30 lead. The early second half surge by the College of Staten Island answered a strong first half finish by SUNY New Paltz who trimmed an 11-point Dolphin lead down to six (29-23) at the break. Senior guard Kim Weigel (Whitestone, NY) sank two, three-pointers in the final 3:30 and sophomore Sandra Glazewski (Dobbs Ferry, NY) hit two free throws with eight seconds remaining to put SUNY New Paltz in good shape at the break.
The College of Staten Island led by as many as 23 with 8:30 to play before SUNY New Paltz (3-4) chipped away at the lead with a 20-10 run and used a three-point field goal by freshman Amber Sohns (Delhi, NY) to make it a 67-59 game with 1:48 to play.
Sophomore Kristen Jackson (East Islip, NY) led the Hawks with 12 points. Jackson was 3-of-6 from three-point range. Glazewski and Weigel each finished with eight points. SUNY New Paltz will host Polytechnic on Saturday (Jan. 8) at 2:00 p.m.
