Hawks Raise Money for Fellow and Former Student-Athlete
NEW PALTZ, NY — This year’s Midnight Madness event sponsored by the SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s basketball helped to raise money for two worthwhile causes.
The two teams presented a check to the family of SUNY New Paltz junior guard Chris Capano. Capano was diagnosed with leukemia last summer. He was a member of the men’s basketball team during the 2003-04 season after transferring from Manhattanville College.
In addition, a portion of the proceeds were donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the name of Kaitlyn Davey. Davey, the sister of former SUNY New Paltz all-conference guard Ben Davey, was killed in an automobile accident on October 13. Kaitlyn Davey was 2001 graduate of Newton High School in New Jersey and a 1,000-point scorer for the girl’s basketball team.
This year’s Midnight Madness featured a three-point shooting contest, an inter-squad scrimmage and entertainment by the SUNY New Paltz Kickline & Cheerleading Teams plus DJ Big Hype.
