Hawks Finish 10th and 17th at ECAC Championship
GRAFTON, MA — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the 2004 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship this afternoon at the Tufts Farm Course in Grafton, Massachusetts.
Junior Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY) covered the 6K-course in 24:50 to finish in 41st place. Junior Kate Choromanski (Shelton, CT) finished 61st with a time of 25:14. Sophomore Alida van Almelo (Groton, NY) and sophomore Jessica Waterbury (Mount Sinai, NY) were also among the top finishers for the Hawks. Almelo and Waterbury were 81st and 83rd respectively with times of 25:51 and 25:54. The Hawks finished 10th among the 24-team field with a total of 338 points.
Williams College won the meet with 24 points. Joellen Arons of Coast Guard finished first with a time of 22:50.
The men’s squad was led by sophomore Harry Sudwischer (Copiague, NY) who completed the 8K-course in 28:44. Senior Jason Letts (Plattsburgh, NY) was second for the Hawks and 91st overall with a time of 29:37.
The Hawks finished 17th among 34 teams with 585 points. Tufts University won the men’s meet with 70 points. Fabian Mejia of Salem State won the race with a time of 26:27.
