Cross Country Teams Compete at Regional Championship

CANTON, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross country teams wrapped up the 2004 season at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championship at St. Lawrence University this afternoon.

The men’s squad came in 27th among 33 teams with 821 points. Sophomore Harry Sudwischer (Copaigue, NY) was the top finisher for SUNY New Paltz. He completed the 8000-meter course in 27:28 and finished in 104th place.

Ted Turner of Geneseo won the race with a time of 24:52. With three runners in the top-15, the College of New Jersey won the meet with 67 points. Geneseo was second with 84.

In the women’s race, junior Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY) was the first Hawk to cross the finish line. Walsh completed the 6000-meter race in 24:24 and finished 62nd to help SUNY New Paltz place 18th among 26 teams. The Hawks had 483 points.

Lehman’s Amy Ruston won the race with a time of 22:37. Geneseo had four of the top 10 finishers and captured the team championship with 41 points.
