Hawks Ranked Sixth in NYSWCAA Volleyball Poll
NEW PALTZ, NY — For the first time in Matt Giufre’s three-year reign as head coach, the SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team is ranked among the top teams in the state. The Hawks are ranked sixth in the first New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) poll that was released yesterday (Sept. 30).
SUNY New Paltz will take an overall mark of 11-4 and a 9-3 record in the New York state region into the Oneonta Invitational this weekend. The Hawks will face eighth ranked Geneseo (11-7, 10-6) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and could square off against host Oneonta on Sunday. SUNY New Paltz is 1-1 against the 11th ranked Red Dragons this season.
The Hawks are one of five SUNYAC teams to appear in this week’s top 12. Cortland (19-1, 18-1) is the top ranked SUNYAC team and is second in the rankings. In addition to Cortland, SUNY New Paltz, Geneseo and Oneonta, Fredonia (13-6, 6-5) has earned a spot in the poll and is ranked 10th.
NYU (18-0, 8-0) is the top ranked team in the region and in Division III.
