Schoonmaker Nets Two Goals in Loss to Hartwick
ONEONTA, NY — Junior Kate Schoonmaker (Rondout Valley, NY) scored two, second half goals in a 4-2 loss at Hartwick this afternoon.
Hartwick, playing its season opener, used a three-goal first half to prevail. Senior forward Kelly Cooman put Hartwick on the board at 18:29 into the first half when she scored off a pass from senior midfielder Cassandra Holleran. Holleran assisted on two goals for the Hawks and sophomore midfielder Jenev Schilling added two goals, with her second coming nine seconds into the second half, to help Hartwick build a 4-0 lead.
Schoonmaker’s first goal came 46 minutes into the game and was set up by freshman attack Ashley Smith (Selden, NY). Schoonmaker helped SUNY New Paltz (0-2) slice the Hartwick lead in half when she converted on a penalty corner late in the second half.
Freshman Courtney Redlein (Bohemia, NY) made two saves in her first collegiate start for SUNY New Paltz.
