RPI Scores Late to Slip Past Hawks, 2-1

SCHENECTADY, NY — Junior forward Craig DiDomenico scored his second goal of the game in the 89th minute to lift RPI to a 2-1 win over SUNY New Paltz in the second day of Union Classic in Schenectady, New York.

DiDomenico took a feed from freshman midfielder Kevin Grammer and chipped a shot past SUNY New Paltz sophomore goalie Jake Lammers (Highland, NY) for the game-winner. The loss was the third, one-goal defeat in five consecutive road games for the Hawks.

DiDomenico opened the scoring at 22:42 when senior midfielder Nick Ruggio slipped a pass through the defense and DiDomenico found the left corner of the net.

SUNY New Paltz quickly pulled even on senior defender Bobby Monahan’s (Central Islip, NY) second goal in as many days. Sophomore forward Joe Fabian (Selden, NY) set up the score as Monahan fired it into the right corner of the net answer the Red Hawks’ goal 48 seconds earlier.

RPI (3-0-1) outshot SUNY New Paltz 7-5 in the second half and 15-11 for the game.

Lammers made seven stops for SUNY New Paltz.

The Hawks (0-5) will play their conference opener at home against Fredonia on Friday (Sept. 17) at 4:00 p.m.
