Hawks Fall in Field Hockey Opener to Kean

NEW PALTZ, NY — Kean University scored two goals early in the second half enroute to a 3-1 win over SUNY New Paltz in the season opener for both teams this evening.

With the game tied at the half, Kean jumped ahead for good on an unassisted goal by freshman forward Caitlin Slemmer (Gendora, NJ). The Cougars (1-0) added to their lead four minutes later on a goal by sophomore midfielder Vicki Egerer (Washington, NJ).

Junior midfielder Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NJ) put SUNY New Paltz on the scoreboard with 5:00 minutes left in the first half to tie the game at one. The Hawks outshot the Cougars 11-6 in the first half and held a 13-11 shot advantage for the game.
