SUNY New Paltz Drops Doubleheader With Seventh-Ranked Cortland
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz softball team lost a pair of 8-0 games to seventh-ranked Cortland this afternoon.
In game one, Cortland sophomore Stephanie Adamshick (Marlboro, NY) tossed a one-hitter and struck out five to raise her record to 17-0. Junior Kim Huson (Binghamton, NY) went 3-for-4 and scored three runs to lead the Red Dragons offensive attack. Sophomore Nicole Fredericks (West Babylon, NY) was 1-for-2 and drove in two in the victory.
Junior Jen Born (Walworth, NY) went 1-for-2 for the Hawks. Junior Laura Thomas (Interlaken, NY) started for the Hawks and took the loss.
In the second game, Cortland (30-4, 17-1) used a four-run first to earn the sweep. Senior Pip Columbo (Williamsville, NY) had a two-run double to highlight the inning. Senior Lara Almansberger (Fairport, NY) and freshman Ang D’Amboise (Ballston Lake, NY) combined on the three-hit shutout.
Junior Jesscia Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY) went 1-for-3 at the top of the lineup for SUNY New Paltz (5-25-1, 1-13). Sophomore Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) was 1-for-2.
Freshman Carrie Briscoe (Stuyvesant, NY) pitched four innings for the Hawks and took the loss.
