Juhl Earns 100th Career Win in 11-2 Triumph Over SUNYIT
UTICA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team helped Head Coach Mike Juhl pick up his 100th career win in an 11-2 victory over SUNYIT in game one of a doubleheader this afternoon.
The Hawks scored in each of the first five innings to build a 7-0 lead after five. Sophomore Jeff Cote’ (Mechanicsburg, MD) went 3-for-4 and drove in three to help lead a 15-hit attack. Senior Silvestre Castro (New York, NY) and sophomore Vinny McAdams (Little Falls, NY) each had three hits while Castro drove in two.
Junior Don Hallenbeck (Fallsburg, NY) went the distance on a seven-hitter. He walked one and struck two to earn his first career win.
Juhl in the only coach in the program’s history to reach 100 career wins.
In the second game, SUNYIT scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at six. Darkness then settled in and the game ended in a 6-6 eight-inning tie.
McAdams tripled and collected three more hits to push his SUNYAC-leading total to 49. McAdams is now only five hits shy of passing the program’s single-season record of 53 set by Randy Walters in 2002.
Freshman John DeKams (Kings Park, NY) had three hits as well and knocked in a run. Castro collected two more hits and drove in two.
Freshman Dean Glanzman (Commack, NY) had two hits and a run batted in to go 3-for-7 with three runs batted in the doubleheader.
