Hawks Battle Russell Sage in Two One-Run Games

TROY, NY — The SUNY New Paltz softball team lost a pair of one-run games to Russell Sage this afternoon.

The Hawks tried to rally from a 6-0 deficit in game one and pulled to within a run but eventually fell 6-5. Sophomore third baseman Danielle Porcelli (Huntington Station, NY) went 2-for-4 and drove in a run. Junior shortstop Jessica Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY) was 1-for-4 with an RBI as well.

In game two, Porcelli homered in the top of the fourth to put the Hawks in front 6-5. Russell Sage however scored two in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run double by Carla Pasquarelli and went on to register a 7-6 victory.

Porcelli was 1-for-3 in the second game. Sophomore first baseman Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) was 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and Schropfer went 2-for-4.

After playing 10 straight road games, the Hawks (4-18-1) will return home on Friday to play a doubleheader against conference rival Plattsburgh.
