Five Student -Athletes Attend Peer Education Conference

NEW PALTZ, NY — Recently Senior Woman Administrator and Head Women’s Soccer Coach Colleen A. Bruley accompanied five student-athletes to the BACCHUS & GAMMA Peer Education Network Area 11 Spring Conference. The two-day event took place at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA.

The student-athletes in attendance were Danielle Herring of the women’s soccer team, Jen Larson of the women’s tennis team and men’s basketball players Tyler Clements, John Hauser and Matt Irwin.

The weekend featured a series of speakers and educational sessions that trained the student-athletes to be peer educators. The workshop gave the student-athletes an opportunity to acquire the skills that they could use both as competitors and members of the campus community. Each student-athlete went on to become a certified peer educator.

This weekend was made possible through SUNY New Paltz’s affiliation with the BACCHUS & GAMMA Peer Education Network and the Student-Athlete Mentor program within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
