SUNY New Paltz Wins a Pair on Day Two of Florida Baseball Trip
FORT PIERCE, FL — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team got into the win column for the first time this season with a pair of victories today. The Hawks defeated Pitt-Greensburg 12-2 this morning and held off Centenary 16-11 later in the day.
In the first game, the Hawks used a four-run first to cruise to the victory. Sophomore Vinny McAdams (Little Falls, NY) went 3-for-3 with a double, stolen base, and three RBI to lead a 13-hit attack. Freshman Blake Crocitto (Lake George, NY) also had a strong day at the plate going 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. Freshman John DeKams (Kings Park, NY) and junior George Perry (Port Jervis, NY) each had two hits for SUNY New Paltz as well.
Freshman Justin Buonamano (Royersford, PA) added a solo home run to right field in the top of the fourth and went 1- for-2 with two runs scored.
Sophomore Marc Smith (New City, NY) went the distance to even his record at 1-1. Smith allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out seven.
Pitt-Greensburg scored single runs in the third and sixth off Smith to drop to 3-5 on the year.
In game two, SUNY New Paltz erupted for six runs in the second and nine more in the fourth to raise its record to 2- 9. Buonamano hit his second homer of the day as part of a 2- for-3 game. DeKams continued his hot hitting with three hits in four trips to the plate. The freshman third baseman also drove in four for the Hawks who tallied 16 hits in the game. McAdams went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI to finish the doubleheader 7-for-7 with five runs batted in.
Sophomore Joe Gugliotta (Bayport, NY) went four and two thirds innings to even his record at 1-1. Trailing 16-1 after four and a half innings, Centenary made a late push with six in the fifth and four in the sixth. Brian O’Neill started for the Cyclones and suffered the loss. Centenary is now 2-1.
