New Paltz Women’s Basketball Team Loses a Close Game to Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY — Senior Lindsay Dakin (Andover, CT) was one of four New Paltz players to score in double figures as she netted a team-high 14 points in a 59-52 loss to SUNYAC foe Oneonta this evening.

Junior Kim Weigel (Whitestone, NY) and freshmen Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) and Sandra Glazewski (Dobbs Ferry, NY) were the other double-digit scorers with 11, 11, and 10 points, respectively. Weigel also pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds.

New Paltz (6-16, SUNYAC 3-11), playing their final road game of the season, held a 22-21 halftime lead and extended their lead to 26-21 just two minutes into the second half. Oneonta (17-6, 12-2) tied the game at 27 apiece three minutes later on a three-point play by senior Kristen Tursi (Staten Island, NY). The Hawks regained the lead on a pair of free throws by Dakin and pulled out to a 40-35 advantage with just over 10 minutes left in the half.

Oneonta freshman Heather Berger (Shushan, NY) scored 15 of her season-high 20 points in the second half and her nine straight points gave the Red Dragons a 44-43 lead with 6:39 remaining which they wouldn’t relinquish.

Junior Ann Marie Faia (Yonkers, NY) added 14 points and five rebounds for Oneonta.

New Paltz returns to the court when they host SUNYAC rival Fredonia State on Friday, February 20th at 6:00 pm.
