Late Surge Leads Cortland Past SUNY New Paltz, 66-62

NEW PALTZ, NY — SUNY Cortland outscored SUNY New Paltz 12-1 in the final 4:08 to pull off a 66-62 win at Elting Gym this evening.

Freshman guard Dave Jutton (Red Hook, NY) sank two three-point field goals in the final 3:30 to key the Red Dragons comeback. Jutton, who finished with six points, sank his first three-pointer at the 3:22 mark to cut the Cortland deficit to 61-57. After sophomore forward Jon Rother (Sodus Point, NY) scored the next four points to tie the game at 61, Jutton put Cortland ahead for good on his second three-pointer with 2:20 to play which made it 64-61.

Freshman forward Amseshem Foluke-Henderson (Jamaica, NY) hit a jumper with 4:08 remaining to put the Hawks ahead 61-54. New Paltz however went without a field goal the rest of the way as Cortland rallied to improve to 11-4 overall and 4-3 in the SUNYAC. Foluke-Henderson sparked New Paltz with 10 second half points as New Paltz led by as many as eight on two occasions with under 12 minutes to play.

Behind the play of senior guard Matt Daudier (S. Floral Park, NY), SUNY New Paltz built a 12-point first half advantage. Daudier scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the opening half. Cortland struggled with its shooting in the first half hitting just 8-of-29 from the floor as the Hawks took a 33-24 lead at the break.

Foluke-Henderson and freshman forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) each finished with 12 points for New Paltz (5-10, 3-5).

Rother led the Red Dragons with 17 points and eight rebounds while sophomore guard Frank Ranieri (Cicero, NY) added 14 points. After going 0-for-7 from three-point range in the opening half, Cortland made 7-of-16 attempts in the final 20 minutes.
