SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Team Falls to Potsdam, 66-57

POTSDAM, NY — Junior Kate Kaczmarek (Webster, MA) notched a double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds to lead Potsdam to a 66-57 victory over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon. The win ups the Lady Bears record to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC while the Hawks fall to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the SUNYAC.

Potsdam took control of the game early by shooting at a 48 percent clip (15-31) in the first half to take a commanding 38-23 lead into halftime. New Paltz scratched and clawed their way back into the game in the second half, including a 14-19 effort at the free throw line, but wouldn’t get any closer than nine points which was the final margin of victory for the Lady Bears.

Senior Lindsay Dakin (Andover, CT) and sophomore Colleen Kelly (Hyde Park, NY) each scored 14 points and pulled down four rebounds for the Hawks. Junior Kim Weigel (Whitestone, NY) chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds, and a game-high seven steals.

In their last game before the Christmas break, New Paltz entertains the College of Staten Island at Elting Gym on Tuesday, December 9th at 6:00 pm.
