SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Team Earns First SUNYAC Win with 65-62 Victory over Potsdam

POTSDAM, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team had four players score in double figures to earn their first SUNYAC victory of the season with a 65-62 win over Potsdam this afternoon. The Hawks improve to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC while the Bears stand at 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC.

Senor Matt Daudier (S. Floral Park, NY) led the Hawks offensive attack with a game-high 18 points along with three assists, two rebounds, and two steals. Senior Jayvard Smith (Hempstead, NY) notched 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.

The other double digit scorers for New Paltz were senior Dom Fornabaio (Wappingers Falls, NY) with 11 points and freshman John Hauser (East Williston, NY) with 10 points.

The game was deadlocked at 28-28 at halftime and remained a competitive battle throughout the second half. New Paltz went 16-18 from the free throw line and was 15-17 from the charity stripe in the second half.

Junior Eldon Harris (Albany, NY) had a double-double for Potsdam with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Junior Evril Clayton (Albany, NY) also scored 13 points for the Bears.

After the Christmas break, New Paltz will travel to Roanoke, Virginia to participate in the V-Foundation Classic. The Hawks will play Ferrum College on Wednesday, January 7th and either St. Joseph’s (ME) or Roanoke College on Thurday, January 8th.
