College of Staten Island Defeats SUNY New Paltz 63-61 in OT

NEW PALTZ, NY — Senior forward Jacclyn Rock (Staten Island, NY) hit a jumper for the College of Staten Island with 52 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Dolphins a 63-61 win over SUNY New Paltz this evening at Elting Gym.

The Hawks (1-5) scored the first four points in overtime to take a 61-57 lead with 3:48 remaining. New Paltz went 0-for-5 from the floor the rest of the way and a pair of free throws by senior guard Donna Przybyszewski (Staten Island, NY) tied the game at 61 with 1:33 to play.

The College of Staten Island outscored New Paltz 10-3 in the final seven minutes to force the extra session. The Hawks took a 54-47 lead on a basket by senior forward Lindsay Dakin (Andover, CT) at the 7:23 mark. From there, the Dolphins scored eight consecutive points and a basket by sophomore guard Kim Thompson (Staten Island, NY) gave the College of Staten Island a 55-54 lead with 4:10 to play.

Senior guard Maura McShane (East Rockaway, NY) then hit a three-pointer to help New Paltz recapture the lead, 57-55 with 3:10 remaining. The Hawks were held scoreless the rest of the way while two free throws by senior guard Jaclyn Badagliacco (Staten Island, NY) with two minutes remaining tied the game at 57 and forced the overtime period.

McShane and senior guard Kim Weigel (Whitestone, NY) led the Hawks with 16 points each. Dakin added 12 off the bench for New Paltz who suffered its fifth straight loss.

Rock had 12 points and a game-high 18 rebounds to help the Dolphins improve to 4-1. Senior forward Tamara Taylor (Staten Island, NY) led all scorers with 17 points.
