Daudier Scores 32 Points to Lead New Paltz Past Baruch
NEW PALTZ, NY — Senior guard Matt Daudier (S. Floral Park, NY) scored a career-high 32 points to lead SUNY New Paltz to an 82-77 win over Baruch in the home opener for the Hawks this evening.
Daudier was 10-of-19 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range while leading the Hawks (1-2) to their first win of the season. Daudier keyed a New Paltz offensive attack that was 12-of-23 from beyond the arc for the night.
Senior forward Jayvard Smith (Hempstead, NY) scored eight of his 12 points in the final three minutes and hit a three-pointer at the 2:15 mark that put the Hawks ahead for good, 74-71. After Baruch came up empty on its ensuing possession, Smith drained another three-pointer that put the Hawks ahead 77-71 with 1:20 remaining.
The Bearcats used a 7-0 run late in the second half to turn a 70-64 deficit into a 71-70 lead with 2:54 to play.
Baruch (0-3) was led by junior forward Sime Marnika (Long Island City, NY) who had 26 points and 15 rebounds. Junior guard John Burzo (Brooklyn, NY) added 17 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range off the bench.
