SUNY New Paltz Women s Tennis Team Advances Three Players to SUNYAC Championship
MANLIUS, NY — Three members of the SUNY New Paltz women s tennis team will play for a conference championship in the singles competition tomorrow at the 2003 SUNYAC Tournament.
The Hawks had a player in the semifinals in each of the six singles flights and will have a representative in the finals in the first, second, and fourth flights.
Junior co-captain Kerry Farrell (Rockville Centre, NY) advanced to the finals in number one singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Julie Adelman of Brockport.
In number two singles, senior co-captain Becky Sparacin (Goshen, NY), the defending SUNYAC champion in this flight, moved on to the finals with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Lauren Olivari of Potsdam.
Junior Amie Larson (Port Jervis, NY), the reigning champion at number five singles, advanced to the number four singles final with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Geneseo s Sarah Muhlbauer.
Sophomore Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) was eliminated by Brit Montmeat of Plattsburgh, 6-4, 4-6, 6-7, in the semifinals of the third singles flight.
In number five singles, freshman Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) lost to Shalini Sudarsanan of Geneseo 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals.
Junior Jessica Smith (Newport News, VA), the Hawks number six singles player, was defeated by Cortland s Meredith McCaslin, 7-5, 6-0, in the semifinals.
