NEW PALTZ, NY — Coming off their first dual match loss of the season on Wednesday to Vassar, the SUNY New Paltz women s tennis team returned to its winning ways with an 7-1 victory over visiting RPI.
Junior Kerry Farrell (Rockville Center, NY) won her first flight singles match 6-1, 6-4 over senior Andrea Erdekian (Weston, MA). Farrell also teamed up with senior Becky Sparacin (Goshen, NY) to win number one singles 8-5 over Erdekian and junior Raimi Ishikawa (Mililani, HI).
Junior Jessica Smith (Newport News, VA) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over freshman Maggie LaManque (Verona, MA) at number six singles for New Paltz.
RPI (5-2) received its lone point from freshman Lydia Lindhult (Belchertown, MA) who defeated sophomore Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) in a third set tie breaker 10-3 after splitting the first two sets 6-2, 4-6.
The second singles match between Sparacin and Ishikawa was called because of darkness. Ishikawa won the first set 7-5 and Sparacin held a 5-2 lead in the second before play was halted.

Doubles #1 Farrell/Sparacin (NP) defeated R. Ishikawa/Erdekian (RPI) 8-5. #2 A.Larson/ J. Larson (NP) defeated Lindhult/LaManque (RPI) 8-5. #3 Goldstein/Amanda Rosario (NP) defeated Marinaro/ Cannelle (RPI) 8-2.
