New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team Falls Short at Buffalo State

BUFFALO, NY — Sophomore forward Gina Monaco (Niagara Falls, NY) scored two goals to lift Buffalo State past SUNY New Paltz 3-1 this afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 in the first half, sophomore midfielder Matty Schwartz (Weston, CT) scored an unassisted goal to pull the Hawks even at the 35-minute mark.

Four minutes later, the Bengals (5-5-1, 2-3-0) grabbed the lead for good when freshman forward Christina Semertzides (Wappingers Falls, NY) took a pass from senior midfielder Amy Drozen (Williamsville, NY) and beat New Paltz junior goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) to make it 2-1.

Despite being outshot 8-6 in the first half and 18-11 for the game, Buffalo State maintained its 2-1 lead until 59th minute when Monaco scored her second goal of the day to put the Bengals ahead by two.

Buffalo State junior goalie Jessica Bingerman (Great Valley, NY) turned away 11 New Paltz shots. Fenton had six saves for the Hawks who are now 1-9-1 overall and 0-6 in the SUNYAC.
