Cross Country Teams Compete at SUNYAC Championship
ONEONTA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross country teams competed this morning at the 2003 SUNYAC Championship in Oneonta, NY. The men’s squad finished eighth among 10 teams while the women were 9th among the 10-team field.
Senior John Zarella (Mahopac, NY) completed the 8000-meter course in 27:32 to finish in 16th place. Senior Dan Holton (Rhinebeck, NY), an All-SUNYAC selection in 2002, came in 27th with a time of 28:10. Freshman Matt McLean (Oswego, NY) came in 48th with a time of 29:14. Junior Jason Letts (Plattsburgh, NY) was 53rd with a time of 29:28. Junior Sam Austin (Northport, NY) completed the top five for New Paltz with a 59th place finish and a time of 29:17.
Geneseo won the men’s meet with 15 points. The Knights, who won their fourth straight SUNYAC title, had the top five finishers in the meet.
The New Paltz women’s squad was led by sophomore Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY) who completed the 6000-meter course in 25:17 to finish in 23rd place. Sophomore Kate Choromanski (Shelton, CT) was 27th with a time of 25:28. Sophomore Heather DeBuono (Fishkill, NY) came in 40th with a time of 26:00. Freshman Kelly Dunphy (Hauppauge, NY) and Alida Van Almelo (Groton, NY) were 56th and 57th respectively with times of 26:52 and 26:55.
Geneseo also took home a fourth straight women’s championship. The Knights top five runners finished fourth through eighth.
