SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Improves to 3-0

NEW PALTZ, NY — — The SUNY New Paltz women s tennis team raised its dual match record to 3-0 on the year with a 6-3 victory over Stevens Tech this afternoon.

The Hawks took four of six singles matches and two of three in the doubles competition to remain unbeaten. After suffering losses at first and second singles, New Paltz rebounded with victories in flights three through six.

Freshman Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at number four singles and teamed with her sister Amie for an 8-1 victory at number two doubles.

Junior Jessica Smith (Newport News, VA) was also a double winner. She won her fifth flight singles match 6-1, 6-0 over senior Tina Yulo (Waldwick, NJ). Smith also combined with sophomore Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) for an 8-0 win at number three doubles.

Junior Kari Munger (Morristown, NJ) and senior Aracely Cruz (Union City, NJ) won at number one and two singles respectively for Stevens Tech (0-3). They also teamed up for a 9-8 win over junior Kerry Farrell (Rockville Centre, NY) and freshman Amanda Rosario (Bronx, NY) in number one doubles.

SINGLES: #1 Kerry Farrell (NP) lost to Kari Munger (ST) 7-5, 6-1. #2 Sara Goldstein (NP) lost to Aracely Cruz (ST) 5-7, 6-4, 10-5. #3 Amanda Rosario (NP) defeated Kathy Martinez (ST) 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. #4 Jen Larson (NP) defeated Suzanne Woodrow (ST) 6-1, 6-0. #5 Jessica Smith (NP) defeated Tina Yulo (ST) 6-1, 6-0. #6 Kim Barnwell (NP) defeated Laura Coleman (ST) 6-1, 6-3. DOUBLES: #1 Farrell/Rosario (NP) lost to Munger/Cruz (ST) 9-8. #2 Amie Larson/J.Larson (NP) defeated Martinez/Woodrow (ST) 8-1. #3 Smith/Goldstein (NP) defeated Yulo/Amy Pavlakovich (ST) 8-0
