Mario Lavacca Scores Twice to Lead New Paltz Past Potsdam, 2-0

POTSDAM, NY — Senior forward Mario Lavacca (Port Washington, NY) scored two goals to help SUNY New Paltz earn a 2-0 conference win at Potsdam this afternoon.

Lavacca scored at the nine-minute mark off a pass from freshman forward Dan Libardi (Canaan, NY). Despite outshooting Potsdam 14-2 in the first half and 26-5 for the game, the Hawks (2-3-1, 1-1) finally gave themselves some breathing room in the 79th minute when junior midfielder Bryan Smith (Washingtonville, NY) set up Lavacca’s second goal of the game and team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Freshman Jake Lammers (Highland, NY) made two saves in his first collegiate start to pick up the shutout victory.

Potsdam is now 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC.
