Vassar Defeats New Paltz 11-6

NEW PALTZ, NY – — Vassar jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two and a half innings and never looked back in an 11-6 win over New Paltz this afternoon at Loren Campbell Field.

The Brewers’ first four hitters in the lineup went 6-for-16 with four RBI and nine runs scored. Junior outfielder Dan Reinhardt (Hillsdale, NJ) reached base three times, scored three runs and stole five bases. Sophomore first baseman Chris Maceira (Pound Ridge, NY) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored as Vassar avenged a 7-5 loss to New Paltz last Saturday. Maceira also stole three bases on an afternoon where Vassar swipped 10 as a team.

Freshman Marc Smith (New City, NY) started the game and suffered the loss for New Paltz. Smith went three innings and allowed five runs on five hits to drop to 0-3.

Senior Brendan Poirier (N. Attleboro, MA) pitched three innings of relief for Vassar to earn the win. Poirier, who scattered three hits, improved to 3-0.

Senior shortstop Randy Walters (Colliersville, TN) went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for New Paltz who is now 4-10 on the year. Senior leftfielder Kevin Smith (Niskayuna, NY) added two hits and an RBI in three at bats for the Hawks (4-10).

The game was called at the start of the ninth due to darkness. New Paltz will host Hartwick tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
