SUNYIT Gets Past Hawks 11-2, 9-2

UTICA, NY — The SUNYIT Wildcats defeated the visiting Hawks 11-2 and 9- 2 Tuesday to run their record to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in the SUNYAC Conference. New Paltz falls to 0-12 and 0-7.

In game one, SUNYIT broke open a 3-1 game in the late innings as the Wildcats plated four in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth en route to the win.

The Hawks managed just three hits in game one from Jen Born (Walworth, NY), Nicole Potestivo and Katie Monahan (Port Jefferson Station, NY).

Kristin Ackermann (Middletown, NY) took the loss throwing all six innings, surrendering 11 runs on 13 hits. Krista Hess picked up the shutout win for SUNYIT.

In game two, New Paltz took the quick lead on an RBI-double from Laura Coonan (Farmingdale, NY) that scored Born.

Born held the Wildcat bats in check for the first three innings before they pushed three runs across in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. New Paltz got a run back in the bottom half of the inning from Tricia Cascio (Farmingville, NY) before the Wilcats broke the game open scoring two runs in the final three innings for the 9-2 margin.

Born went the distance in the loss giving up nine runs on eight hits while striking out seven batters.

The Hawks will take on Cortland in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 3:00 p.m at Tony Williams Park in Highland, NY.
