Oneonta Downs New Paltz 14-5 In Women’s Lacrosse
KINGSTON, NY — Sarah Andrews (Tompkins Cove, NY) scored three goals and Jenn Long (Clay, NY) and Kim Powell (Seaford, NY) added two apiece as the visiting Red Dragons of Oneonta defeated New Paltz 14-5 in women’s lacrosse Friday night at Dietz Stadium in Kingston.
Powell opened the scoring 2:30 into the game and three minutes later Jessica Garabedian (Baldwin, NY) and Andrews scored 30 seconds apart for the early 3-0 lead.
Jillian Sheppard (Stony Brook, NY) answered for the Hawks with 21:37 left but the Red Dragons outscored New Paltz 6-1 the rest of the half for a 9-2 lead at halftime.
Oneonta opened up a 14-2 lead in the second half with five ifferent players registering goals before New Paltz answered with three of their own from Danielle Herring (Albany, NY), Mary Warren (Mineola, NY), and Megan Porter (Massapequa, NY) for the final 14-5 margin.
The win keeps the Red Dragons perfect in SUNYAC play at 4-0 and they improve to 8-1 overall on the season. The Hawks slip to 0-6 and 0-5 in the conference.
