KING’S POINT, NY — In a non-team scoring event at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Bill Omeltchenko Invitational, the Hawks had three ECAC qualifiers and a total of 19 athletes qualify for the SUNYAC Championships to be held at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, NY on April 26th.
Musu Jackson-Buckner (Buffalo, NY) won the 200 meters with an ECAC qualifying time and school record of 26.03 seconds, Andrea Drayss (Island Park, NY) had an ECAC qualifying throw of 11.61 meters in the shot put with her third-place finish, and Jen Hutchinson (Queensbury, NY) qualified for ECACs in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.48) to highlight the day for the women’s team. Jackson-Buckner also ran a SUNYAC qualifying time and school record of 13.06 in the 100 meters and a SUNYAC qualifying mark of 4.71 in the long jump. Drayss also had a SUNYAC qualifying throw of 27.30 in the javelin and Hutchinson had a SUNYAC qualifying mark and school record of nine feet in the pole vault.
Marisa Ouranitsas (Levittown, NY) had SUNYAC qualifying times of 14.41 seconds in the 100 meters and 1:05.07 in the 400 meters.
Amandine Blackime (Tuckahoe, NY) qualified for both the SUNYAC 100 meters and 200 meters with a time of 14.43 seconds in the 100 and 28.66 in the 200.
Erika Johnson (Kingston, NY) qualified for the SUNYAC Championships in both the shot put and the discus. Johnson finished 8th in both events with a throw of 9.37 meters in the shot put and 27.80 meters in the discus
Stephanie Ramsey (Shelton, CT) and Heidi Dippel (Levittown, NY) both had SUNYAC qualifying times in the 100 meters. Ramsey finished 20th with a time of 14.61 seconds and Dippel was 21st at 14.71.
Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY) and Kate Choromanski (Shelton, CT) both had SUNYAC qualifying times in the 1500 meters. Walsh (5:07.32) and Choromanski (5:09.11) placed 5th and 6th, respectively.
Heather DeBuono (Fishkill, NY), Natasha Dudar (New Paltz, NY), and Rebecca Demeri (Wantagh, NY) also were SUNYAC qualifiers at the meet. DeBuono finished 7th in the 800 with a school record time of 2:28.58, Dudar qualified in the long jump (4.67 m), and Demeri qualified in the 5000 meters (20:12.71).
Josh Moore (Woodburne, NY), Andrew Hunsinger (Queensbury, NY), and Brian Lundy (Stormville, NY) highlighted the day for the men, qualifying for two SUNYAC events each. Moore finished 2nd with a qualifying throw of 13.03 in the shot put and 7th in the hammer throw with a qualifying mark of 31.82 meters. Hunsinger set a school record in the 200 meters with a SUNYAC qualifying time of 23.32 seconds and finished 3rd in the 100 meters with a qualifying time of 11.52 seconds. Lundy was 4th and set a school record in the javelin with a qualifying throw of 45.10 meters and also qualified for the discus with a throw of 33.82 meters.
Justin Lee (East Fishkill, NY), Phil Goodwin (Rochester, NY), and Adam Thyberg (Blue Point, NY) also had SUNYAC qualifying times on the afternoon. Lee was 7th in the 800 (2:01.31), Goodwin was 2nd in the 1500 (4:05.95), and Thyberg was 8th in the 400 meter hurdles (59.09).
The Hawks will be at the Hamilton Invitational next weekend before hosting the 2003 SUNYAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships April 26th.
