Hawks Edge RPI 4-3

NEW PALTZ — The New Paltz men’s tennis team ran its record to 6-4 on the season today with a 4-3 win over RPI.

The Engineers (3-3) took the first point by winning two of three doubles matches but the Hawks won four of the six singles matches to claim the victory.

Bobby Calise (East Islip, NY), Brad Breakstone (Mount Kisco, NY), and Josh Greenspan (North Babylon, NY) each won straight-set matches in singles play.

Calise continued his strong season improving to 9-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Joe Black and Breakstone improved to 6-3 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Borjan Gagoski. Greenspan evened his season record at 5-5 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Jon Addison and Brian Palmenteri (Howard Beach, NY) outlasted Joaquin Denoya 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).

The Hawks are back in action tomorrow against Hunter College at 3:30 p.m.

Doubles: 1) Taran/Breakstone (NP) defeated Heligman/Gagoski (R) 8-6. 2) Byrne/Black (R) defeated Finger/Calise (NP) 8- 4. 3) Denoya/Addison (R) defeated Greenspan/Jason Letts (NP) 8-4.
