Fredonia Downs Softball 8-3 and 8-2

OSWEGO, NY — The Fredonia Blue Devils handed New Paltz softball two losses Sunday in Oswego, NY, 8-2 and 8-3.

With the losses, the Hawks drop their season record to 1-26 and end their SUNYAC season at 1-17.

Danielle Porcelli (Huntington Station, NY), Jessica Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY), and Nicole Potestivo (Staten Island, NY) each had two hits to lead the New Paltz attack in game one but the Hawks could only muster two runs off of Fredonia pitcher Ashley Sullivan.

The Blue Devils, meanwhile, took a 4-0 lead in the third and broke a 4-2 game open in the fifth and sixth with two runs in each inning.

Kristin Ackermann (Middletown, NY) gave up just seven hits in the outing for the loss.

In game two, Liz McPartlan’s (Huntington Station, NY) two- RBI single highlighted a three-run second inning that gave the Hawks an early 3-1 lead over the Blue Devils. The Hawks, however, could not punch anymore runs across the rest of the way and Fredonia plated seven taotal runs in the fifth and sixth for the win.

Tricia Cascio (Farmingville, NY) had two hits to lead the Hawk offense and Wendy Del Orbe (Brooklyn, NY) took the loss despite giving up just four hits in five innings.

New Paltz’s season will come to a close Monday in a doubleheader at Skidmore beginning at 3:30 p.m.
