New Paltz Falls 5-2 to Grinnell

ORLANDO, FL – — New Paltz suffered its second 5-2 loss in as many days, falling to Grinnell this afternoon.

The Hawks, now 0-2, won two of the six singles matches. Junior Brad Breakstone (Mt. Kisco, NY) improved to 2-0 on the year with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Kushal Shah at number three singles. Junior Bobby Calise (East Islip, NY) also won for the second straight time, taking his number four singles match 6-1, 6-0 against Julian West.

At number five singles, New Paltz junior Brian Palmenteri (Howard Beach, NY) took the first set 6-4, but then dropped the next two, 0-6, 7-10, to Brij Patnaik. The Pioneers also recorded straight set wins at number one, two and six singles after begining the day with a sweep of all three doubles matches.

New Paltz will close out its three-match Florida trip tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Knox College.

Doubles #1 Finnessy/Fenbert (G) defeated Taran/Breakstone 8-1. #2 Patnaik/Abeygunawardawa (G) defeated Finger/Calise (NP) 8-2. #3 Shah/Howie Johns (G) defeated Brandon Goodman/Greg Cichon (NP) 8-6.
