Oneonta Pulls Away From Hawks in Second Half

ONEONTA, NY — After a tight first half, Oneonta used a 48-22 second half to pull away from New Paltz for their fifth SUNYAC win.

The Red Dragons had a 38-29 lead with 13:13 to play before opening up a 20-point lead with less than eight minutes remaining to seal the game. Senior Alena Seabrook (Middletown, NY) led Oneonta with 11 points. Marie Davey (Amsterdam, NY) and Kristen Wittig (Lisle, NY) each had nine.

The Hawks started strong and jumped out to a 6-2 lead on back-to-back three-point field goals by junior Lindsay Dakin (Andover, CT). The Red Dragons regained the lead 9-8 at the 15:03 mark and never relinquished it again. Oneonta used an 8-2 run to go up 15-10 before New Paltz brought it back to 15-14 on Tarah Norris’ (Port Jervis, NY) basket with 6:21 left before the Red Dragons closed out the half on a 10-5 spurt to go into the locker room up six.

The loss sinks the Hawks’ overall record to 5-8 and their conference record to 0-4. Oneonta improves to 7-4 and 5-1 in the SUNYAC.

The Hawks will be on the road this weekend in conference games at Potsdam Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
