Oneonta Gets By Hawks 81-64

ONEONTA, NY — Oneonta had five players in double figures Tuesday night as the Red Dragons defeated New Paltz 81-64 at Dewar Arena in Oneonta, NY.

The Red Dragons move to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in the SUNYAC while the Hawks slip to 3-9 and 1-3 in conference play.

Oneonta saw a 10-point lead at the half cut to four in the first seven minutes of the second half. The Red Dragons then went on an 18-2 run to take a commanding 53-38 lead. New Paltz sophomore Jonathan Towles’ (Jamaica, NY) steal and lay-up with 2:31 left managed to cut the lead to 10 but the Hawks could get no further as the Red Dragons sank seven of eight from the line down the stretch for the final margin of victory.

New Paltz grabbed the lead early 5-2 before Oneonta countered with eight unanswered points to take the lead for good. The Hawks got as close as 13-11 with just over eight minutes left before Oneonta went on a 17-9 run for a 30-20 lead at the break.

Anthony Negreanu (Woodside, NY) led all scorers with 18 points while Shabron Bridges (Bronx, NY) added 17. LeShon Reagans (New York, NY) contributed 13 points and Kurt Troyer (Albany, NY) and Bryant Parker (Sherburne, NY) each had 10.

Senior Danny Goldberg (New Rochelle, NY) was the high scorer for New Paltz with 14.

The Hawks are back in action this weekend with conference games Friday night at Potsdam at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
