Hawks Drop Non-Conference Game to Rowan

NEW PALTZ, NY – — Junior guard Tylee Thomas (Wildwood, NJ) led three Rowan players in double figures with 21 points to help lead the Profs to a 78-62 win over SUNY New Paltz this evening at Elting Gym.

After New Paltz jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game, Rowan used a 23-2 run over the next nine minutes to go ahead 25-9 with eight minutes remaining in the half.

Thomas scored 17 of his game-high 21 points in the first half and Profs shot 63 percent from the floor (20-of-32) in the first 20 minutes.

Sophomore center Evan Johnson (Burlington, NJ) and sophomore forward Brandon King (Sickerville, NJ) each added 12 points for Rowan who improved to 10-2 with the win.

New Paltz (3-8) got as close as 13, 60-47, with 7:29 remaining on layup by junior forward Steve Ott (New Paltz, NY). The Hawks, who were coming off a 63-53 conference-win over Geneseo on Saturday, were led by senior guard Ben Davey (Andover, NJ) and sophomore forward Jonathan Towles (Jamaica, NY) who each had 13 points.

New Paltz will get eight days off before resuming its schedule on Jan. 21 at conference-rival Oneonta.
