Hawks Best Plattsburgh
PLATTSBURGH, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s team got a big conference win over Plattsburgh Saturday 73-56. The victory lifts the Hawks win total to 2-4 in the SUNYAC and 4-10 overall while the Cards sink to 4-10 and 1-7 in conference play.
The Hawks took the lead at the 18:05 mark of the first half on Jonathan Towles’ (Jamaica, NY) basket and never relinquished it. The Hawks took a 37-23 lead into halftime thanks to Ben Davey’s (Andover, NJ) 10 points and steadily built the lead in the second half to 19. The Cards managed to cut the lead to 11 with 5:51 remaining on Ed Campbell’s (Bronx, NY) layup before New Paltz sealed the game with an 11-2 run over the last five minutes.
The Hawks had the edge over the Cardinals in rebounds 46-35 including 20-14 on the offensive glass.
Steve Tobitsch (New Canaan, CT) led all scorers with 18 points while adding 10 rebounds for the Hawks. Towles ended the game with 13 points and 10 boards while Davey and Steve Ott (New Paltz, NY) each had 12 points apiece.
The Hawks are back in action this Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. at Elting Gym against SUNYIT in another league matchup.
