Cardinals Edge Hawks

PLATTSBURGH, NY — The Plattsburgh State Cardinals outlasted New Paltz 62-52 Saturday to improve to 6-2 in the SUNYAC and 11-6 overall. The Hawks fall to 6-9 and 1-5 in the conference.

The Cards held a 57-37 lead with 5:41 remaining in the game on a basket by Amanda Frost (Howell, NJ) before the Hawks stormed back. New Paltz ended the game with a 16-5 run cutting the lead to nine with 25 seconds left on Kim Weigel’s (Whitestone, NY) jumper. Jessica Longe’s (Johnstown, NY) free throw with two seconds left, however, gave Plattsburgh its final 10-point edge.

Weigel had 10 points for the Hawks in their late run including 4-for-4 from the free throw line and ended with a game-high 18 points.

Erin Hutchinson (Shortsville, NY) had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cards while Frost added 14.

The Hawks are back in action against SUNYIT at Elting Gym on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
