Hawks Roll to 5-0 Win Over SUNYIT
NEW PALTZ – — Senior Vinny Tiberia (Manhasset, NY) and junior Mario Lavacca (Port Washington, NY) each had a goal and an assist to lead the SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team a 5-0 conference win over SUNYIT this afternoon at Dietz Stadium.
The Hawks outshot the Wildcats 24-4 to pick up their first league win of the year. SUNY New Paltz is now 4-12-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the SUNYAC.
SUNY New Paltz took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute on a goal by Bryan Smith (Washingtonville, NY). The Hawks held onto the one-goal lead until the 72nd minute when Lavacca set up sophomore Matt Daum (New Paltz, NY) for his eighth goal of the season.
From there, New Paltz added three more goals in the next 14 minutes to pull away. Senior Kevin Smith (Niskayuna, NY) and junior Michael Vaughan-Cherubin (Albany, NY) each made a save and combined on the shutout. Smith also assisted on a goal by Tiberia later in the game as a field player.
Brian Carroll (Mayfield, NY) made nine saves for SUNYIT who dropped to 5-10 overall and 0-9 in conference play.
