Geneseo Rallies For 2-1 Overtime Win

NEW PALTZ – — Senior forward Leslie Howlett (Penfield, NY) scored 1:05 into overtime to lift visiting Geneseo to a 2-1 conference win over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon at Dietz Stadium.

Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, the Knights (6-7, 2-3) got the equalizer with 11:02 remaining when senior forward Meg New (Canastota, NY) fired a shot from 10-yards out that found the left corner of the cage to pull Geneseo even.

SUNY New Paltz took a 1-0 lead at the 31:30 mark when freshman attacker Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NJ) scored on a penalty corner. The Hawks ended a scoring drought of 324 minutes with that goal.

SUNY New Paltz, who suffered its third overtime defeat of the season and fifth one-goal loss of the year, concluded the 2002 season with an overall mark of 3-13 and a 1-4 record in the SUNYAC. The SUNY New Paltz field hockey program finished its third-year of varsity play.
